Brazil’s Congress has approved a sweeping law that rolls back environmental licensing protections, allowing medium-impact projects (mining, farming) to proceed with only self-declared permits.

Environmentalists warn this will accelerate deforestation and threaten Indigenous territories. The bill is now awaiting President Lula’s signature.
